Kenya Peaberry

Description

Gura wet mill sits on the banks of Gura River (said to be the fastest river in Africa) and gathers cherries from farmers on the slopes of the Aberdare Mountain Range. Nyeri County has cool temperatures and fertile central highlands, and the combination of fertile soil, seasonal rainfall and high altitude provide the ideal climate for coffees characterised by high acidity, full body and ripe fruit flavours. Peaberry gets its name from the fact that, unlike other beans, only one of the two seeds are fertilized, meaning the single seed develops with nothing to flatten it. The oval (or peaberry) shape is relatively rare making it a sought-after product; only around 5% of all coffee beans are harvested in this form.
