Meet the New Producer Behind Our Hakuna Matata

We are proud to introduce the new coffee now featured in our Hakuna Matata: Nano Challa Limu Grade 1 Fully Washed Organic, a specialty coffee grown in the highlands of Ethiopia.

This exceptional coffee embodies the finesse and elegance of Ethiopia’s finest coffees. Behind every cup lies the meticulous work of the Nano Challa cooperative, located in the Genji Challa kebele, in the heart of the Jimma region.

Today recognized as one of the region’s flagship producers, the Nano Challa cooperative is renowned for the remarkable quality of its washed coffees. This Limu Grade 1 lot — a designation reserved for Fully Washed coffees produced in this area — perfectly expresses the signature profile of great Limu coffees: bright citrus acidity and a delicate black tea-like texture.

A Coffee From the Birthplace of Arabica

Ethiopia is widely considered the historical birthplace of Arabica coffee. In its mountains, ancient heirloom varieties are still cultivated traditionally by passionate smallholder farmers.

Nano Challa coffee is grown between 1,980 and 2,100 meters above sea level. This high altitude slows the maturation of the coffee cherries, allowing for the development of exceptional aromatic complexity and remarkable elegance in the cup.

A Bright and Floral Cup

From the very first sip, Nano Challa reveals an expressive and refined profile. Its vibrant acidity brings notes of lemon, bergamot, and ripe citrus fruits, creating a lively and juicy sensation.

The experience continues with delicate tea-like nuances reminiscent of black tea or Earl Grey, supported by a light, silky, and elegant texture.

This complex and balanced profile will appeal both to specialty coffee enthusiasts and to curious coffee lovers eager to discover the rich aromatic diversity of Ethiopian coffees.

A Cooperative Committed to Quality

Nano Challa brings together hundreds of small-scale producers working collectively to preserve traditional farming methods while showcasing the exceptional quality of their harvests.

Each cherry is handpicked before being processed using the fully washed method. This technique results in a particularly clean and precise cup, highlighting the clarity and character of the terroir.

The coffee is also organically certified and cultivated with deep respect for the local environment.

A Roast Designed to Reveal the Terroir

For this coffee, we chose a light roast profile to preserve the full aromatic richness of the bean.

This approach fully reveals Nano Challa’s natural characteristics: its liveliness, sweetness, and complexity, without masking the identity of its terroir.

Every batch is roasted with precision to ensure a balanced, expressive cup that faithfully reflects the outstanding work carried out in Ethiopia.

How to Enjoy It

Nano Challa truly shines with filter brewing methods such as:

These brewing methods beautifully highlight its aromatic clarity.

As an espresso, it develops a brighter, more lemon-forward profile with a long and elegant finish.

A True Invitation to Travel

With this new Ethiopian coffee, we want to share much more than just a product. Every cup of Nano Challa tells the story of an exceptional terroir, a dedicated cooperative, and craftsmanship passed down through generations.

Hakuna Matata continues its journey through the world’s great specialty coffee origins, always driven by the same mission: to help you discover authentic, vibrant, and deeply human coffees.

We can’t wait for you to experience this beautiful coffee from the mountains of Limu.
