At Goodlife, we believe that a great coffee can transform a simple moment into a true experience. It is with this vision that we created Urumuri, a coffee born from one of Africa’s finest coffee traditions: that of Rwanda.

The word Urumuri means “light” in Kinyarwanda, the language of Rwanda. This name symbolizes energy, warmth, and sharing. Through this coffee, we aim to offer you a cup that brightens your day while introducing you to the story and origin of these exceptional beans.

Urumuri is not just a coffee: it is an invitation to travel through aromas, terroir, and the craftsmanship of the producers who cultivate these beans with passion.

A unique place in Rwanda

Urumuri coffee comes from plantations located in the Nyamasheke district, in Rwanda’s Western Province. This region is renowned for producing coffees of great aromatic finesse thanks to its exceptional natural conditions.

The plantations are situated between 1,600 and 2,100 meters above sea level—an ideal altitude for growing Arabica coffee. At this elevation, the beans ripen slowly, developing more complex and richer flavors.

The region also benefits from a remarkable environment, near Lake Kivu and the Nyungwe tropical forest, one of the largest montane forests in Central Africa. The climate, volcanic soils, and biodiversity create a unique terroir for producing outstanding coffee.

The producer: Gasharu Coffee

Urumuri coffee is the result of the work of Gasharu Coffee, a Rwandan family business recognized for the quality of its coffees.

The story of Gasharu Coffee began in 1976, when Celestin Rumenerangabo planted his first coffee trees in the Nyamasheke region. His project gradually evolved into an internationally recognized specialty coffee production.

Today, the company is led by his son, Valentin Kimenyi, who continues his father’s work while developing new methods of coffee production and processing.

Gasharu Coffee collaborates with around 1,600 smallholder farmers, who grow their coffee trees on the surrounding hills. The coffee cherries are handpicked and then processed in washing stations, where they are carefully sorted and dried to preserve the quality of the beans.

Beyond production, the company supports farmers through training and guidance to strengthen their skills and improve their income, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the region.

An exceptional variety: Red Bourbon

Urumuri is made from the Red Bourbon variety, a highly prized Arabica variety in the specialty coffee world.

This variety is known for its sweetness, balance, and aromatic complexity. Grown at high altitude in the Rwandan hills, Red Bourbon produces beans with rich and elegant flavors that perfectly reflect the region’s unique terroir.

A natural process that reveals the aromas

Urumuri coffee is processed using the natural (dry) method. The coffee cherries are dried whole in the sun before the beans are extracted. During drying, the sugars and aromas of the fruit gradually infuse into the bean, giving the coffee exceptional intensity and aromatic richness.

This drying process requires special care and constant monitoring to ensure consistent results and preserve all the qualities of the bean.

A unique flavor profile

One of Urumuri’s most remarkable features is its tasting profile.

Each cup reveals:

This profile creates a balanced, fruity, and expressive coffee that can be enjoyed as an espresso or brewed using filter methods.

At Goodlife, we believe that coffee can brighten your day.

And with Urumuri, that light begins in your cup.
